DIY

A. The smallest water leaks can become the biggest issues! We recommend checking under your sink, toilet, and tub at least once a year. While you are down there, it’s a great idea to clean your faucet aerators. Make sure to repair or replace leak parts immediately! This can help you avoid damage to tubs, vanities, and kitchen cabinets; and prevent water damage and mold to floors and ceilings. Lee Plumbing and Heating is also just one call away!

STOP! Before doing any maintenance to water heater, make sure you SHUT OFF the POWER. Once a month drain at least one gallon of water from the tank. This removes sediment that builds up in the tank over time and can cause damage to the tank. Have a professional at Lee Plumbing and Heating check your tank every other year. Preventative maintenance can go a long way in saving you money

A. Toilets that are constantly running can be very expensive, wasteful, and downright annoying. If your toilet runs continuously check the flapper at the base of the tank. Clean it off, and if it continues to run then buy a replacement.

Toilets

A. Leaking toilets can damage the unit, waste water, and be very expensive on the water bill! There is an old trick to check and see if your toilet is leaking.

Put a TBSP of purple food coloring in the toilet tank. Shut the tank and leave it for about 1 hour. Then check the toilet bowel. If the water has a purple color to it, then your tank has a leak. Replacing the tank ball will get the toilet running like new again

A. The water shut off valve for toilets is normally located under the fixture. There will be a water supply coming from the wall or the floor. Find the valve on that supply line, and turn it until the water turns off.

Sink

A. Often when your house in plumbed, somewhere inside that walls or the floors of your home, the sink drains and the laundry drains connect. This connection is where the lint and hair from the laundry and the grease from soap and food meet. Once these substances come together, they combine into a very hard and dense blockage that occludes they drain.

This can be resolved by snaking the drain. Lee Plumbing and Heating can always provide this service for you!

A. Strainers can be placed inside the drains to collect hair and food substances. You should also never rinse grease, fats, or cooking oils down the drain.

A. The first thing to do is check the water supply valve under the sink. Make sure that it is all the way open. Also, sometime calcium and Lime can build up within the valve, causing the decrease in pressure.

This can be resolved by cleaning or replacing the valve.

Drains

A. Often when your house in plumbed, somewhere inside that walls or the floors, the sink drains and the laundry drains connect. This connection is where the lint and hair from the laundry and the grease from soap and food meet. A. Clogged drains are one of the most common plumbing issues we see. The first thing that you can do is use a plunger to dislodge the blockage.

Plunger tips:

  • Cover sink overflow outlet.
  • Remove basket strainer or drain stopper.
  • Fill sink ½ way with water.
  • Place plunger over drain, and make sure you have a good seal.
  • Try removing the blockage using a quick up and down motion with plunger.
  • Check drain.
